s&S was based continuously in various far-flung locations within the peripheries of mainland China from 2006-2021. During that time, the radio stream operation continued, while we also carried on with the creation of original content and the recording of local sounds. Your Remote Operator would make regular attempts to transmit live shows from each of the home studios where we were based, though piercing the Great Firewall consistently was often a real challenge.

This hour is assembled exclusively of excerpts from thematically China-centric broadcasts made in Dali, Yunnan province at s&S’s Banana Hut Hideaway studio. It includes original sounds/ music, remixes, field recordings, noises and voices nabbed from live Chinese FM & shortwave radio. Most of these bits are lightly edited excerpts that were originally crafted live on the air. Behold these floating sounds and flying wires!
